Keeping fishing in Canada
|
For a long time, there will be a large amount of fish in Canada. We have many areas for millions of fish to be, which means the activity is very easy to keep sustainable. By using the "Catch and release" method when fishing, it helps keep the fish alive, and you can still have fun while fishing. We sell nearly 1 million fish each year in Canada, but catch many more. By doing this, fishing will stay the same it has always been if we continue to keep our water clean, and release fish when we catch them.

Fishing impacts on the things around us. |
1. Wildlife / Aquatics Species
There are a few impacts on the wildlife in Canada from fishing. The first threat is "Over-fishing". Over-fishing is when more fish are caught then you should be catching, basically meaning they can't naturally reproduce in time (lowering the population). Another impact is "Illegal fishing". Illegal fishing is when fishermen or a certain group of people catch fish, and sell it illegally, with them pocketing all the money. Keeping fish is legal in some areas, put it is illegal to sell the fish publicly and it is considered fraud. 2. Vegetation Fish do not affect vegetation a ton, mainly because they are in the water. There are plants in the water, but the fish do not change anything about the plants. The plants however, affect the fish. 3. Water Fish affect the water in a major way. This does not happen in every single ocean, lake, or river, but in some cases this can be very dangerous. Fish can overpopulate, and overpopulate causes lack of food and diseases. Usually, when overpopulation happens, all the fish either die, or the population in that area (of fish) does not change for a while. |
